HOW IT WORKS

Black Film Space is excited to launch the 8th installment of our Screenwriting Accountability Group!

With this program we emphasize deep work by creating an environment where you can dive into your screenplay with minimal distractions, alongside like-minded individuals.

Screenwriters commit to writing every day on their own separate scripts in a group setting Monday through Friday from April 7th to May 30th. Writers meet on Zoom in their self-selected group of 8 or more people.

Writers are encouraged to complete a project in that time (i.e. final draft of a short, a pilot, first draft of a feature, etc...) Writers must be on time and on camera to be counted as present.

Our objective is to create a structured space for writers to focus and improve their craft. We understand this structure is not for everyone, please be mindful of your availability to commit.

OUr Facilitator

  • Melissa Quinones is a Filmmaker and Producer who started her career shortly after graduating from Lincoln University in 2014. She has worked on hit shows such as; She's Got It Too, Gotham, FBI, Severance, White Collar, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Madam Secretary and more. She is also the Founder of Black Legacy Film Festival.

 FAQs

  • We encourage participants to attend at least 80% of the writing sessions?

    This program is most powerful when everybody shows up. On time, camera on and focused.

  • We encourage participants to commit to attending the first 90 minutes of each session.

    If you're unable to do so, we kindly ask that you reconsider joining.

  • Once the program has started, participants are not able to switch groups or join another group. This is to maintain the consistency and cohesion of each group, ensuring that all members are accountable with one another.

  • Each group will have two leaders and they are expected to be present at most if not all sessions (in your respective group).

    Group leaders are excepted to show up 15 minutes before the session begins, spark conversation amongst the group before and after the session and mark attendance.

    Since there are two group leaders they can alternate who marks attendance and cover for each other if one is absent.

  • 10 minutes before your writing session begins.

    This is to give yourself an opportunity to set up your software/scripts/notes and to verbalize your daily goal to the group for your writing session.

  • You can connect with other writers before and after each writing session.

    We also encourage you to set up virtual 1:1 with participants in your group and share your work with each other for feedback.

  • After you register for the program you will automatically receive a link for the orientation on September 25th, 9 to 9:45pm ET.
